这里顺便说一下，加拿大许多知名大学对TESL专业的语言要求比较高，IELTS一般以7.0为底线，另外有的学校要求4项都不低于7.0，而且对Speaking/Listening还有单项要求，甚至达到8.0。

        4）Mcmaster U(MA in CSCT)：这个专业属于Department of English and Cultural Studies, 网站上的描述是McMaster University has emerged in recent years as a national centre for the study of Cultural Studies and Critical Theory, with many faculty across a wide range of disciplines devoted to the critical analysis of contemporary culture. 已经成为全国文化研究与批评理论的中心，我想这个专业应该是很不错的。当时是先收到系主任的回信 “It sounds like you have strong experience.We look forward to your application.All best” 才决定试着申请。但如果是早些收到Coordinator的回信，我可能就不会申请这所学校。尽管后来学校说 “You will appreciate that the constraints under which the Department and the University are operating have made our graduate programs very competitive, and we were only able to offer very few places.”但我感觉还是因为自己的专业背景跟这个专业的研究内容偏差值有些大。虽然这是个不成功的申请，但仍希望其他的朋友能申请成功。附上Coordinator 提供的一些信息，供后来者参考：

        The following are the FAQs for the CSCT program:

        1.  I notice your undergraduate courses offer a new branch of Cultural studies and critical theory. It’s so fascinating and I wonder if the master program will cover such fields.

        Yes, offer an MA in CSCT which begins annually in September, though many of our current MAs are already doing CSCT courses and theses.

        2. Approximately how many applicants annually are applying for this program and how many are admitted for the M.A. degree?

        We admit one in four applicants to a total of 25 for the MA. Total number of graduate students in program for the 2005-06 Academic year are: 70. MA in English 25, PhD 39, and the MA in CSCT 6.

        3. How about the percentage of international students? More specifically is there set proportion for Asian or Chinese students?

       We have some international students, but there is no set quota. Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to provide an official record of the Test of English as a Foreign Language.  A TOEFL score of 580 on the regular test and a score of 237 on the computerized test is required.  If you are submitting the EILTS test, a score of 7 is required.

        4. When is the peak time for you to receive the application forms?

        Beginning of January. Deadline for applications in January 15 of each year. Admission to the program is made in September of the year only.         5. As to the staff listed on the website, am I allowed to email them or talk to them directly for information about the program study and admission decision?

        You can email faculty with questions about their courses or as possible supervisors. We will let you know in the spring about our admission decision.

        6. When and from whom can I suppose to get the earliest notification of whether I am admitted or not?
